Global Elections 2024: A Potential Turning Point for the ESG Landscape
As part of TechUK’s campaign looking into geopolitics, elections and global trade, Sam Sweeny has written a thought provoking blog which explores the knock on effect of 2024 elections on the ESG landscape.
"Even if the work of previous administrations is tempered by the introduction of less-sympathetic governments, we are closer to a global approach to business and diplomacy that holds ESG as one of its key tenets. In order to stay this course and ensure that the next worldwide confluence of elections does not cast the future of ESG into such relative uncertainty, it is essential that we continue to educate the electorate, our leaders, and businesses around the world.”

Renewables responsible for 30% of power
Almost a third of the world's electricity in 2023 came from renewable sources, up from 19% in 2000, according to a report by thinktank, Ember.
Growth in the solar and wind sectors helped to boost output with total solar generation up 23% and wind went up nearly 10%.
EU member states generated 44% of their electricity with renewables with the majority coming from non-nuclear sources. In the UK, energy from renewable sources dropped last year, but despite this, fossil fuels made less than 40% of the country's electricity.
