ABOUT LORE GROUP

Lore Group creates storied hotels for the long term

Lore Group is an international hospitality company operating design-led hotels across the UK, Europe and the US. With a portfolio that includes heritage buildings and large urban properties, Lore Group faces a complex sustainability challenge: how to decarbonise operations, stay ahead of evolving regulations, and embed ESG into everyday decision-making without compromising the guest experience.

To meet this challenge, Lore Group partnered with FuturePlus to establish a robust, science-based framework for measuring impact, setting ambitious goals, and driving continuous improvement across the Climate, Environment, Social, Economic, and Diversity & Inclusion themes. FuturePlus now acts as Lore Group’s ESG “roadmap-meets-dashboard”, reviewed quarterly at the leadership level to ensure progress is both measurable and actionable

THE CHALLENGE

Unifying Reporting Across Global Properties

Operating hotels in dense global cities brings inherent constraints: legacy infrastructure, reliance on gas for commercial kitchens, and complex supply chains that make Scope 3 emissions particularly difficult to track. At the same time, Lore Group wanted to move beyond compliance-only reporting and adopt best-practice frameworks that support long-term resilience.

Key challenges included:

  • Establishing a verified baseline for Scope 1 and 2 emissions across multiple properties
  • Building a consistent ESG measurement system across regions
  • Preparing for future regulatory requirements (including TCFD-aligned climate risk and emerging EU and US disclosure standards)
  • Developing a credible pathway toward decarbonisation, including supply-chain engagement for Scope 3 by 2026

Rather than waiting for mandatory thresholds to apply, Lore Group chose to voluntarily adopt more rigorous climate risk assessment and disclosure practices, using TCFD as a guiding framework and embedding climate considerations into strategic planning and investment decisions

THE SOLUTION

The FuturePlus Approach

FuturePlus provided Lore Group with a structured assessment process built on over 250 indicators aligned to recognised standards, including ESG indices, UN SDGs, certification schemes, government frameworks and impact-focused metrics.

Through the platform, Lore Group receives:

  • An Actual Score (current performance across five ESG themes)
  • An Ambition Score (forward-looking commitments over a three-year horizon)
  • A live sustainability roadmap translating data into prioritised actions
  • Ongoing advisory support to turn insight into implementation

This dual-score model allows Lore Group to demonstrate today’s impact while transparently committing to future improvement, reinforcing accountability across teams and properties

FuturePlus also supports Lore Group with climate risk assessments at the property level, examining physical risks (such as extreme weather and water scarcity) alongside transition risks (regulation, market shifts, reputational exposure). These assessments inform capital expenditure planning and long-term resilience strategies, helping prevent assets from becoming stranded in a low-carbon future

FROM MEASUREMENT TO
ACTION

With FuturePlus as the central ESG platform, Lore Group has been able to translate data into tangible operational change:

Decarbonisation and Energy

  • Scope 1 and 2 emissions are independently calculated and assured, providing a verified baseline for reduction.
  • From 2025, Lore Group transitioned to renewable electricity across its portfolio, prioritising emissions reductions at source rather than external offsetting.
  • Annual climate risk assessments guide adaptation and mitigation strategies across all owner-operated buildings.

In 2024 alone, Lore Group achieved a 3.5% year-on-year reduction in reported emissions (236 tonnes of CO₂e), demonstrating how structured measurement supports continuous improvement.

ESG INTEGRATION ACROSS OPERATIONS

FuturePlus scoring highlights achievements across:

  • Waste reduction, water management, and the elimination of single-use plastics
  • Ethical supply-chain standards, including supplier codes of conduct and GHG reduction expectations
  • Workforce wellbeing, diversity, inclusion, and access to healthcare
  • Governance practices such as transparent reporting, anti-corruption policies, and stakeholder engagement

Individual properties such as One Hundred Shoreditch and Sea Containers London now positively impact 15 of the 17 UN Sustainable Development Goals, illustrating how ESG performance is embedded at the hotel level, not treated as a head-office exercise.

DECISION-HELPING
DATA

FuturePlus functions as Lore Group’s sustainability “SatNav”, enabling leadership to understand how operational activity converts into emissions, risks, and opportunities.

By establishing baselines and tracking progress in real time, teams can prioritise investments – from building management systems and water fountain projects to digital transformation that eliminates paper processes and reduces physical key usage, aligning environmental gains with financial efficiency

THE RESULTS

Rapid Certification and Strategic Action

Through its partnership with FuturePlus, Lore Group has achieved:

    • A consistent ESG measurement framework across international operations
    • Independently verified Scope 1 & 2 emissions and clear pathways toward Scope 3 reporting by 2026
    • Portfolio-wide adoption of renewable electricity
    • Annual climate risk assessments informing long-term asset strategy
    • Demonstrable year-on-year emissions reductions
    • Property-level ESG roadmaps driving operational accountability
    • A culture shift where sustainability is integrated into design, technology, procurement, and guest experience

Crucially, FuturePlus has helped Lore Group move from static reporting to dynamic performance management, ensuring ESG data directly informs strategy, capital planning, and day-to-day decisions.

LOOKING AHEAD

Lore Group continues to expand its use of FuturePlus to deepen supply-chain engagement, refine Scope 3 measurement, and identify further decarbonisation opportunities, particularly around gas usage and urban hotel electrification.

With FuturePlus providing the structure, insights, and accountability framework, Lore Group is building a hospitality model that is not only compliant but resilient, transparent, and future-ready.
